Palanga Sculpture Park
Located in the city center, at the intersection of Vytauto and J. Simpsono streets, the Sculpture Park not only attracts the attention of passers-by, but in summer it becomes a place of peaceful relaxation for families, children, and friends.
Visitors to the sculpture park can admire sculptures that have been transferred to the care of Palanga City Municipality by the Lithuanian Art Museum.
Palanga Sculpture Park was established in 1982 in the city center, at the intersection of Vytauto and J. Simpsono streets. As the park attracted the attention of holidaymakers and visitors to Palanga, it was expanded and renovated several times. In 2008, on the occasion of the park’s 25th anniversary, the Palanga City Municipality initiated a park renovation project. Architect L. Mardosas, who designed the park’s first exhibition, created the park’s reconstruction project.
In the reconstructed sculpture park, visitors can admire as many as 28 sculptures, which were transferred to the Palanga City Municipality by the Lithuanian Art Museum. Currently, the sculpture park features works by renowned Lithuanian sculptors K. Kisielius, B. Vyšniauskas, L. V. Strioga, B. Zalensas, A.D. Belevičius, V. Krutinis, A. Toleikis, A. Žukauskas, and D. O. Matulaitė. The exhibition is also adorned with valuable works by foreign sculptors from Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, and Armenia.
The sculpture park not only attracts the attention of passers-by, but in summer it becomes a place of peaceful relaxation for families, children, and friends. Lovers of intellectual sports such as chess are also welcome here.
In 2018, on the initiative of the Palanga Chess Club, a permanent chess table was installed in the sculpture park to honor Albertas Žulkus, a Palanga resident, folk artist, and great chess enthusiast.
In 2020, after the chessboard was renovated, it became possible to play giant outdoor chess here.
