The house of the composer Balys Dvarionas

Dvarionas Balys (1904-1972) – composer, conductor, pianist, teacher, professor.
His life and work are connected with Palanga.
In 1921 he gave a concert in Palanga with the choir of the „Daina” Society.
From 1930 the musician often visited Palanga.
In 1958, the Dvarionas family bought a villa in Birutė Street and spent summers in Palanga.
Here the professor wrote the overture „Dawn”, a sonata for violin and piano, the opera „Dalia”.
He began to compose a concerto for piano and orchestra and other works.
From 1955, symphonic music concerts were held at the Palanga Summer Stage.
Dvarionas, then chief conductor of the State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, gave concerts in Palanga.
Thanks to the efforts of the professor and his wife Aldona Dvarionienė, a children’s music school was opened in Palanga in 1958.
The composer is buried in the Palanga town cemetery.

The sculptor R. Midvikis is the author of the Dvarionas family memorial project.

B. The tomb of the Dvarionas family and their house in Palanga are registered in the Cultural Heritage Register of the Republic of Lithuania.
