House of the artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius
Žmuidzinavičius Antanas (1876-1966) – artist (painter), professor (1947), public figure. The artist participated in choosing the colours of the Lithuanian flag (1917-1918). In addition to landscapes, he created thematic compositions, painted portraits, watercolours, illustrated books, drew posters, designed postage stamps and Lithuanian banknotes, and wrote a memoir entitled Palette and Life (1961). The artist had a summer house in Palanga, on J. Basanavičiaus Street, where he spent his holidays and worked from 1949 to 1966. The artist immortalised the place in his paintings „Palanga”. „Palanga by the sea” (1921), „Ronže bridge” (1931), „Palanga dunes at dusk” (1936), „Pasture by the Ronže” (1937), „Old pines on Birutė hill” (1942), „Palanga sand dunes” (1943), „Wilutė in Palanga” (1949), „Palanga. The bridge over the Ronže (1950), Palanga seaside (1951), etc. The house of A. Žmuidzinavičius in Palanga is included in the Register of Cultural Values of the Republic of Lithuania and is protected by the State.
