The house where Vladas Jurgutis, a famous Lithuanian financier, lived
Jurgutis Vladas Rafaelis (1885–1966) was a politician, economist, academic, founder of the Bank of Lithuania, priest, creator of financial terminology, member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and professor. He was born in Palanga and studied at Palanga Progymnasium (1897–1901). For his work at the Bank of Lithuania, V. Jurgutis was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas, 2nd class (1927), and for his work in public service, he was awarded the Order of Vytautas the Great, 2nd class (1934). In 1997, Palanga Secondary School No. 2 was renamed Vlado Jurgučio Secondary School (now V. Jurgučio Primary School). A memorial stele (sculptor R. Midvikis, architect E. Benetis) was unveiled at the house in Palanga where V. Jurgutis lived (J. Piktuižio g. 13). On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Bank of Lithuania and the litas, gold and copper-nickel alloy 1 litas coins with the image of V. Jurgutis were issued, and a scholarship and award named after V. Jurgutis were established (1997).
