The homestead of composer Balys Dvarionas
Balys Dvarionas (1904–1972) was a composer, conductor, pianist, teacher, and professor.
The composer’s life and work are closely connected with Palanga.
In 1921, he performed in Palanga with the choir of the Daina Society.
The musician frequently visited Palanga from 1930 onwards.
In 1958, the Dvarionas family purchased a villa on Birutės Alley and spent their summers in Palanga.
Here, the professor wrote the overture Aušra, a sonata for violin and piano, the opera Dalia
He began composing a concerto for piano and orchestra and other works.
In 1955, symphony concerts began to be held at the Palanga Summer Stage.
Dvarionas, then chief conductor of the State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, performed in Palanga.
Thanks to the efforts of the professor and his wife Aldona Dvarionienė, a children’s music school was opened in Palanga in 1958.
The composer is buried in the Palanga City Cemetery.
The Dvarionas family tomb was designed by sculptor R. Midvikis.
The Dvarionas family grave and house in Palanga are listed in the Register of Cultural Values of the Republic of Lithuania.
